How to Become a Werewolf on Oblivion

"Oblivion" is the fourth game in the "Elder Scrolls" series. Unlike prior titles, players cannot encounter werewolves and thereby cannot contract lycanthropy. However, by installing the mod "Werewolves: The Curse of Hircine," players can gain this opportunity. At the time of publication, the mod is still in beta phase and doesn't boast a full feature set. It does, however, let players become werewolves. Since the developers designed "Oblivion" with modding in mind, installing the mod is straightforward. Players will also need to install the "Oblivion Script Extender," or OBSE, as the mod depends on it.

Instructions

    • 1

      Download OBSE (see Resources).

    • 2

Unzip it. If you do not have unzipping software, you can download a program such as "7-Zip" or "WinRar." Both are free.

    • 3

Open "My Computer" and navigate to your "Oblivion" directory. By default, it installs to "\Program Files\Bethesda Software\Oblivion."

    • 4

Drag and drop the files obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll and obse_loader.exe into the "Oblivion" directory.

    • 5

Download the mod "Werewolves: The Curse of Hircine." Unzip it and drop its contents into the "Oblivion\Data" sub-directory.

    • 6

Double-click on obse_loader.exe. This loads "Oblivion" with the added functionality of OBSE.

    • 7

Select "Data Files." Check the box next to "Werewolves: The Curse of Hircine."

    • 8

Play the game. While traveling, you'll now encounter werewolves on occasion. If one hits you, there's a slight chance of you contracting lycanthropy and becoming a werewolf yourself.
