How to Load DotA in OpenGL

Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a modifier for the real-time strategy game "Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos." The game style, created and edited in the "Warcraft 3" Map Editor by various authors, pits two teams against each other in a race to destroy the other's "ancient" building. The style brings balance to the game in a way original game modes did not, but some players still have a disadvantage due to mouse cursor lag, graphic lag in battles and other video related issues. Loading the game in OpenGL instead of DirectX can solve these issues for most players.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the "Warcraft 3" link you use most often. A link is typically created on the desktop and in the Start menu.

    • 2

Right-click the link icon and click "Properties" to display more information and settings for the link.

    • 3

Click to place the cursor at the end of the "Target" field. Click anywhere in the field and press the down arrow if the end of text is not visible.

    • 4

Add a space after the quotation mark at the end of the field, then type "-opengl" and click "OK" at the bottom of the window.

    • 5

Double-click the "Warcraft 3" link icon to open in OpenGL mode, then begin playing DotA as you normally would.
