You can uninstall the "Diablo II" game from your computer by using the uninstall features built into Windows or Mac OS. Before uninstalling "Diablo II", you should back up your saved characters in case you want to return to the game or try an expansion pack at a later date. Even after you have uninstalled a program, some data are normally left behind. You will improve your system performance by running disk cleanup and defragmentation utilities after uninstalling software.

  1. Uninstalling "Diablo II" from a Windows System

      Back up your saved characters. You can use Windows Explorer to locate the "/save" subdirectory in your "Diablo II" directory and copy its contents to your backup device or location. Alternatively, download the "Diablo II" backup utility, d2bckp.exe, from IGN FilePlanet or the "Diablo II Character Manager" from the "Diablo II Character Manager Official Site".

      Left-click the [start] button at the bottom left corner of your screen to pull up the "start" menu. Mouse over "settings" to pull out the settings menu and right-click "Control Panel". On the "Control Panel", right-click "Add or Remove Programs". Select "Diablo II" for removal.

      Clean up your hard drive after uninstalling "Diablo II" to improve system performance. You can access the Windows "Disk Cleanup" utility by left-clicking the [start] button, mousing over "Programs", "Accessories" and "System Tools," and right-clicking "Disk Cleanup".

      Defragment your drive for better disk performance after running a disk cleaner. Start Windows "Disk Defragmenter" by left-clicking the [start] button, and then mousing over "Programs", "Accessories" and "System Tools," then right-clicking "Disk Defragmenter".

    Uninstalling "Diablo II" from a MacIntosh System

      Drag an application icon to the Trash folder to uninstall the application from a MacIntosh computer.

      Check your Library folder for "Preference" files (found in "/Library/Preferences") and "Application Support" files (found in "/Library/Application Support") that might be left behind after you uninstalled Diablo II.
