How to Edit GMod Textures

"Garry's Mod" is a sandbox game that comes with no predefined aims or goals for the player to follow. Instead, it features many tools and objects that allow you to play with the objects and entertain yourself by using the tools however you want. Like other games built on Valve's Source engine, "Garry's Mod" is fully customizable, from the maps you create to the textures you use within the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your "Garry's Mod" installation folder. This will vary depending on where you chose to install Steam. Its default location is the "Program Files (x86)" folder on your C drive.

    • 2

      Double-click the "Materials" folder.

    • 3

Open the folder where you have your custom textures.

    • 4

Drag the texture files into the "Materials" file. Confirm, if you are prompted to overwrite any files.

    • 5

Double-click the Hammer icon on your desktop. Wait for the program to load fully.

    • 6

Click "File" and "Open." Navigate to your maps folder, which you defined when you configured "Garry's Mod." Double-click your map.

    • 7

Select your new texture in the Texture Browser, located on the right-hand sidebar of the program. Type in the filename in the search field to expedite the process.

    • 8

Click the arrow in the left-hand toolbar. Click the surface of the map you want to change.

    • 9

Click "Apply Selected Texture." The texture selected in the Texture Browser will apply to the surface you selected on the map.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 7 through 9 for all textures you want to edit. Click "File" and "Save" to save your changes.
