Hints Solutions
At the beginning of each case, you receive five hints that will help you locate items or solve a puzzle. However, you can earn extra hints by locating a pipe hidden in each scene. There is only one pipe per scene. Use the hints wisely, so you have them when you're truly stuck. The pipes will be in different locations each time you play.
Solving the Cases
Each of the 16 cases are solved in the same manner. You start with a scene where you must find the differences between two photos of the same room, then you advance to a scene where you take the same photo and find items in that scene. The final part of each case involves determining the suspects. In each scene, there are often mini-puzzles where players must turn dials, rotate tiles and make images appear. In one case, there is a jewelry box puzzle where you must turn three dials upright; however, one dial turns all three dials, one turns two of the dials and one only turns itself. To solve this puzzle, you must first turn the dial that turns all three, then the one that turns two and finally the one that turns just itself.
Final Case
The final case of the game is the hardest, because you have four sections to complete instead of the usual three, but are given the same amount of time. During the first part, you have eight separate locations where you must find two items. One of the items is a clock that must be found in each place. During the second part, you have eight items that go into the empty slots. When placed in the correct order, the first letter of each item spells out a name. The order from top to bottom is mummy hand, oboe, revolver, ink, arrow, red wine, tea cup and yarn. The third part consists of defusing three bombs by solving the corresponding mini-puzzles. The final puzzle has the player locating Moriarty's henchmen by looking through a pair of binoculars.
Chemistry Bonus Game
Throughout the game, there are hidden Sherlock Holmes caps -- one for each case. If you find them all, you unlock the bonus chemistry game. The game consists of four different colored test tubes. When you click on them, they pour themselves into the glass container. The objective is to figure out which color combination is the correct one. You have 12 chances to get it right. The correct combination changes each time you play.
