How to Do the Upper Shaft in World of Goo

"World of Goo" is a physics-based construction game by 2-D Boy in which players solve puzzles by building things with goo. In the game, Upper Shaft is in Chapter 3, Level 4. The premise of this level is that goo needs to build down a shaft and through a tunnel to get to the suction tube. Two obstacles in the way are a large explosive box and some spikes along the walls of the tunnel where the tube is.

Instructions

  Lengthen the rope of green goo holding the heavy black box by pulling two excess goo balls off the rope and connecting them triangularly to three other goo balls so that you see three vertical triangles.

  Remove the center goo ball connected to the main rope to lengthen the rope.

  Continue the previous steps until you have used all of the excess green goo balls.

  Build down on the red goo balls hanging from the bottom of the black box. Build them into the fire, and they will act as a fuse and blow up the box.

  Build the gray balls upward, and connect them to the green goo ball rope.

  Use the green rope to support your gray goo ball structure so that you can build it horizontally and reach the tube to the right.

  Suck up as many leftover goo balls as you can.
