How to Prevent Out of Memory Crashes in GTA IV

In the PC version of "Grand Theft Auto IV," ("GTA IV"), players sometimes experience a game crash related to a lack of available memory on their computer. When this happens, the game will shut down and an error message describes the crash as "Out of memory - Please re-boot your system." If this error shows up regularly during gameplay, you can take steps to prevent it from happening.

  Assure that your computer is at, or above, the minimum system requirements for "GTA IV." If it is not, you will need to update your computer to play the game without experiencing crashes.

  Reboot your computer after experiencing the "Out of memory" error.

  Close any other programs that are running on your computer before starting a game of "GTA IV." Background processes can consume your computer's memory, leaving an insufficient amount available for "GTA IV" to function properly.

  Install the most recent patches available for "GTA IV." These can be found at the Rockstar Game Support site.

  Log out from the "Rockstar Social Club" program, that is installed with "GTA IV," after experiencing an "Out of memory" crash. Log back in to the program, then try running "GTA IV."
