Defeat Baraka
To gain access to the wasteland, you must first fight and defeat Baraka outside the entrance to the soul tombs. Attack him until his health drains enough for him to run away. Kill the priests that come to fight you. Fight Baraka using your character's projectile attack until he moves across the chasm. Grab a weapon lying around and use on Baraka. A Test Your Might challenge will begin, in which you have to quickly tap "A" or "X," for Xbox and PlayStation 2 respectively. To make this much easier though, quickly tap "A" and "X" for Xbox. Press "X" and "Square" if you are playing the PlayStation 2 version. Press "R2" for PlayStation 2 or "Black" for Xbox after you win the Test of Might. You will throw the weapon your holding an impale Baraka. You can now easily attack your weakened enemy until he dies.
Acquire Wall Run Koin
Look on top of the tall pedestal; you will see that a koin has appeared. Go through the gateway to Wu Shi Academy. Jump onto the roof and then onto the wall. Walk toward the statue and destroy it with the Fist of Ruin. Enter into the secret courtyard and grab the koin; it gives you the ability to run along the side of a wall.
Get Wall Jump Koin
Use this ability to get back to the top of the Wu Shi Academy wall. Return to the gateway that you came through and walk into it. Use the wall run to grab the koin at the top of the pedestal. You can now perform a wall jump.
Entering the Wasteland
Go through the gateway that takes you back to the portal. Jump down to the bottom level of the portal and head left. Walk through the gateway here. Use your new wall jump ability to climb the two walls to the right of the large doors. Kill the minor enemies standing between you and the gateway. Pass through the gateway and you are in the wasteland.
