Uplink
Introversion Software released "Uplink" in 2001 and it has the honor of being the first realistic hacking simulation released on PC. In "Uplink," you work as a hacker for a giant corporation and your goal is to gain money, skills and equipment without getting caught by the authorities. Due to the complexity of the game, "Uplink" has a built-in tutorial which allows you to learn how to hack servers and avoid getting caught by the authorities.
Hacker Evolution
Developer Exosyphen Studios released "Hacker Evolution" in 2007. Despite the fact that its gameplay is somewhat similar to "Uplink's," "Hacker Evolution" brings a few innovations to the genre, such as a more complex graphical interface. As in "Uplink," however, you also have to hack servers around the world by typing various commands in a console. Once hacked, you can use those servers to transfer money into your account or to gain valuable information which you can then resell.
Hacker Evolution: Untold
Released in 2009, "Hacker Evolution: Untold" is a direct sequel to "Hacker Evolution." While the overall gameplay remains the same, "Hacker Evolution: Untold" offers updated graphics, due to a revamped interface. The developer also raised the difficulty level, making it difficult to hack servers without getting detected by network administrators and the police. Another feature which was not present in the original game is the level editor. "Hacker Evolution: Untold" enthusiasts now have the ability to both create and share personalized game levels with their friends.
