How to Play LAN Age of Empires With a Crossover Cable

Generally, crossover cables are used to connect two like network devices to each other, such as routers to routers or hubs to hubs. A crossover cable can also be used to network two computers together. If you wish to play "Age of Empires" with two computers in close proximity, you can do so easily with the use of such a cable.

  Connect one end of the crossover cable to the Ethernet port on the first computer.

  Connect the other end of the crossover cable to the Ethernet port on the second computer.

  Activate the "Age of Empires" game on both computers. Select the "Multiplayer" option, followed by the "LAN" option on both computers. Have one computer host a game and the other computer search for a game. You will find that the computers recognize each other.

  Adjust the in-game settings for the LAN game on the host computer. Select the "Play" option on both computers to begin playing.
