How to Configure Wine to Run World of Warcraft & Xandros

Xandros is a Linux operating system based on Debian and using KDE. Xandros prides itself in creating a Microsoft Windows-like experience, giving you the ability to use Microsoft Office files with OpenOffice.org. Wine is compatibility layer designed to work with Xandros and other Linux distributions to run Windows-based programs, including "World of Warcraft." Once Wine is installed on your Xandros system, installing "World of Warcraft" is easy to accomplish and it will take a comparable time to install it onto Windows.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a terminal by clicking the KDE button and typing "Konsole" into the search bar. Click "Konsole."

    • 2

Type "sudo apt-get install wine" to install Wine onto your system. The installation may install several other dependencies at the same time. Once the installation is complete, the system will let you know.

    • 3

Download the "World of Warcraft" client, Windows version. This method will prevent you from changing CDs (which can be difficult using Wine) and give you the latest version of WoW available.

    • 4

Open "Dophin" file manager by click KDE and selecting "File Manager." Click the "Downloads" folder, right-click the WoW client you just downloaded and select "Open With" and "Wine Windows Program Loader."

    • 5

Select your language from the installer and location, if you click "Next" through each of these screens you will be using English and installing it to the default "C drive" location.
