Requirements for the Haunted in Unreal Tournament 3

Operating System

• While "UT3" requires gamers to have Windows XP or Windows Vista, "The Haunted" requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista. The difference between Windows XP and Windows XP with Service Pack 2 may seem insignificant when determining a game mod's compatibility, but "The Haunted" requires Service Pack 2. This suggests that "The Haunted" must make use of updates found in Service Pack 2 that "UT3" does not.

Processor

• "UT3" requires a Pentium 4 processor with a minimum clock speed of 2 GHz or an AMD Athlon equivalent. "The Haunted" requires more processing power, with a minimum clock speed of 2.4 GHz. "The Haunted" requires an Intel Dual Core processor or an equivalent AMD processor. The greater processor speed will improve the speed at which gameplay occurs. The increased visuals will slow the processing speed down, so a higher clocked processor is needed to offset the processing requirements.

Memory

• While "UT3" requires 512MB of RAM, "The Haunted" doubles that requirement to 1GB of RAM. "The Haunted" contains more visuals and ambient sound than "UT3," and therefore needs more RAM to accommodate the increase in effects. By requiring more RAM, "The Haunted" also has the potential to run faster because of the quicker speeds of RAM vs. hard disk memory.

Video

• Both "UT3" and "The Haunted" require a video card equal to, or better, than the nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX or ATI Radeon x1600. The 7800 GTX has 512MB of video RAM, while the Radeon x1600 has only 128MB of video RAM. This shows that the Radeon x1600 can do more with less.

Hard Disk

• "The Haunted" requires 8GB of free hard disk space. "UT3" also requires 8GB of free hard disk space. You must have "UT3" installed on your computer in order to play "The Haunted." Much like "UT3," "The Haunted" utilizes a large number of skins for enemies, players, weapons and environments. These graphic files all take up a lot of hard disk space.
