How to Make a Star in RCT3

"Roller Coaster Tycoon 3" is a classic simulation game for the PC that allows you to design roller coasters and manage a theme park. One of the miscellaneous options available in the game is the fireworks selector. However, the basic fireworks selector is often not enough to meet the creative needs of advanced players. Instead, there is an Advanced Fireworks Editor that must be unlocked with a simple cheat. From there, the Advanced Fireworks Editor can be used to create any numbers of complex and fun fireworks to spice up your theme park, including stars.

Instructions

  1. Unlock the Advanced Fireworks Editor

    • 1

Name one of your guests "Guido Fawkes." This is the cheat that allows you to open the Advanced Fireworks Editor.

    • 2

Go to the Fireworks menu and select "Advanced Fireworks Editor."

    • 3

Click "Add a New Firework" and set your firework's lifetime to "0.05." Leave the other options alone.

    Ancestor Emitter

    • 4

Click "Add a New Emitter". This will create what is called an "ancestor emitter". This emitter will send particles into position, each of which will spawn a "child emitter".

    • 5

Choose the "Emitter Rate" and set the start time to "0.99."

    • 6

Fill in the "# Particles" field. This setting determines how many stars will be spawning on your screen. 500 is a good start, but you can adjust it later to your own liking.

    • 7

Select the "Emitter Speed" menu. Use the "Sphere" and "Circle" values to adjust the appearance star deployment to your own liking, but don't use the other options. In addition to the "# Particles" field above, the Sphere and Circle values are a great way to customize your star grid to your liking.

    • 8

Set "Particle Lifetime" to "0.75." This insures that the ancestor emitter will disappear in time for the child to take its place.

    • 9

Go to the "Basics" menu for the particle and pick the particle shape you want. This controls the basic appearance of each star and is entirely up to you. You are now finished with this emitter.

    Child Emitter

    • 10

Add a new emitter and select its parent. Make sure you pick the ancestor emitter you just made.

    • 11

Go into particle basics and select the same particle form you picked for the ancestor emitter.

    • 12

Select the "Emitter Rate" screen. Set the "Start Time" to 0.99 and the number of particles to "1." This insures that the child emitter only spawns after the ancestor disappears, and only one star spawns per ancestor.

    • 13

Select the "Emitter Speed" screen, and set the "Parent" option to "0." This option refers to the speed relative to the parent. By setting it to 0, it means that the new emitter will move at 0 percent of the speed of the parent; in other words, it will stand still.

    • 14

Select the "Particle life" screen. Set lifetime to "20." This is the maximum lifetime the game will allow you to select for one emitter; however, 20 seconds is probably not long enough.

    • 15

Create more child emitters by repeating the above steps as many times as you wish. Five times is a good start. By creating more and more child emitters, you effectively increase the lifetime of each star by 20 seconds per emitter. If you create five child emitters, you get stars that last 100 seconds. If this isn't long enough for your needs, simply add more child emitters.
