How to Convert Half-Life to Steam

By activating your retail copy of "Half-Life" or "Half-Life 2" on Steam, you will be able to receive automatic updates and use the Steam Chat application while playing. It will also allow you to download the game again, should you lose your original CD. Both Steam and Half-Life are applications from Valve Corporation. Steam is a gaming platform that allows you to both buy games and activate certain games you bought in a traditional brick-and-mortar shop. You can add your copy of "Half-Life" or "Half-Life 2" to Steam using the program's built-in activation feature.

     Launch Steam by double-clicking on the "Steam" shortcut on your Windows desktop.

     Log in to Steam with your Steam user name and password. Click on "Login."

     Click on the "Games" menu at the top of the window. Select "Activate a product on Steam." Click on "Next."

     Read the Terms and Conditions and click on "I agree."

     Type your "Half-Life" or "Half-Life 2" CD key in the box and click on "Next." Then click on "Finish." You can find your game's CD key, which is a series of letters and numbers, on a sticker inside the CD's case.
