Use of Hotkeys
"StarCraft" is a game that uses the computer's mouse and keyboard to dictate the action on screen. Using hotkeys allows you to quickly move around the screen and issue commands to your troops. Use the left mouse button to click on a specific unit. Dragging the mouse cursor over a group of units will select that whole group at once. Right-clicking on any enemy unit or building will issue an attack command on that item. Holding down the ctrl button while using the left mouse button will select all available units that match that specific type. Pressing the spacebar will center the last important message that was displayed on screen. Use this key to review important objectives you may have missed.
Units
Each race in the "StarCraft" game has various units that complete such commands as attacking enemies and building important structures. The Terran Marine is the basic unit of that group that can be used to support of other attack units. The Zerg Overlord is a unit that is unable to attack enemies, however its transport use will help you defend your forces and move attack troops into position very quickly. The Protoss Dragoon is a versatile attack unit that can strike ground and air forces. Pair them with Zealots to make a powerful attack team.
Buildings
Buildings are used to construct various units and give your military extra bonuses. Each race has buildings that are specific to their group and offer different benefits. The Zerg Sunken Colony is a ground defense base that, when built in groups, are formidable against attacking units. The Protoss shield battery is a useful building because you can use that area to prepare your attack units or heal any defense units that have been attacked. The Terran Science Facility is important because you need to have it built to receive any type of upgrades for your units.
Upgrades
In "StarCraft," units and buildings can receive upgrades that will increase their attack and defense capabilities. The Terran engineering bay will provide upgrades to all the ground units in your military to increase their overall attack strength. Vehicle plating is an upgrade that will increase the defense rating for all of your units during battle. Each one will now be able to take more damage for enemy attacks. The Zerg Metabolic boost will cause your troops to move faster around the map. This is important because you can move attacking units into position quicker and also cause groups to retreat at a faster pace.
