How to Get Off of Freeplay on Stepmania

"StepMania" is an open-source, free-rhythm video game based on the popular "Dance Dance Revolution" series. It runs on Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OSX, making it ideal regardless of the type of computer you own. The purpose of the game is to press arrows in the same pattern that they appear on the screen while a song plays. The arrows or "notes" coincide with the rhythm and beat of the song. While freeplay mode allows you to play one song after another, it has a bug that prevents you from returning to the main menu to switch modes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open "StepMania." Freeplay mode opens on its own since the bug prevents you from going back to the main menu.

    • 2

Press "F3" on your keyboard to return to "home play" mode.

    • 3

Open "StepMania.ini" in the directory "C:\Program Files\Stepmania\Data" with a text editor such as Notepad if "F3" doesn't work.

    • 4

Change "CoinMode=2" to "CoinMode=0," then save the file.
