How to Get Your Ping Down in AlterIWnet

AlterIWnet is an alternative gaming platform for the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As with Modern Warfare 2, you can take several steps to lower your ping. You can work through the game to lower your ping, but it's usually more effective to make changes to your computer so that less bandwidth is being used, leaving more bandwidth for AlterIWnet to use.

  Choose a server with a low ping, which is the number in the column titled "Ping" at the "Join Server" screen. Clicking on the column header sorts the servers by their ping, which makes it easier to find a server with a low ping. A ping below 100 does not often impact game play, but try to get a server with as low a ping as possible. The lower the ping, the better your connection to the server, and the better your gaming experience will be.

  Close programs on your computer that may be using bandwidth that AlterIWnet could otherwise be using. File-sharing programs such as LimeWire, for example, use large amounts of bandwidth by both downloading and uploading data, and should be closed when playing online computer games.

  Move your computer closer to your wireless router if you connect to the Internet with a wireless connection. If it is inconvenient to move your computer, move your router instead. A weak wireless signal can degrade the quality of your Internet connection and increase ping times.
