Domain of Heroes
"Domain of Heroes" (DoH), like most text-based MMORPGs, is free to play and operates inside of your web browser. Players create a "toon," choose a fantasy-based race such as Dragon or Elf, a gender, and a career path that determines their character's basic abilities. The game is fairly unique in that players determine general course of action and direction rather than inputting constant commands. Characters will go about the business they are ordered to and carry out tasks without needing total supervision. DoH has a presence on most major platforms, being compatible with Mac and PC, as well as the Wii, PlayStation 3 and some iPods.
OGame
"OGame" is a text-based MMORPG with a strategic sci-fi concept. An in-game tutorial guides players as they manage limited resources from a single colony in an attempt to construct a grand empire spanning multiple planets. Four main resources -- Crystal, Energy, Metal and Deuterium -- are obtained through the construction of buildings on player-controlled stations and used to further expansion and exploration. "OGame" boasts a healthy user base, a large variety of units and equipment and a robust tutorial system.
Torn
"Torn"'s game play revolves around a real-world environment with a focus on crime and conflict with other players in an attempt to rise in status and power. "Torn" allows players to engage in trading, investing, racing and quests. More personal options include getting a job, getting married, going to school and even writing for the Torn City newspaper. Tens of thousands of players log in daily and participate in a world that is evolving with new and fresh content on a regular basis.
Hattrick
"Hattrick" goes against the grain of what is perceived as the norm in MMORPG game play. "Hattrick" is the first online soccer-management program. Players create a team and face competition from all over the world. "Hattrick" focuses on both short- and long-term game strategy and has been online since 1997. Owning and managing a club involves selecting a starting team, trading players and managing on the field. Each team is based in a region that relates to a real-world location and enables players to meet and converse with other locals.
