How to Change DOSBox's Simant Resolution

SimAnt was released in 1991 for MS-DOS operating systems. However, unlike previous versions of Windows, Windows 7 does not include support for the MS-DOS operating system, making it impossible to play "SimAnt" using just Windows 7. DOSBox is a program that emulates the MS-DOS operating system, allowing you to install and play any MS-DOS based games on your Windows 7 PC. DOSBox offers a wide variety of customization features, such as changing the resolution settings. These settings are changed the same way for any game. To configure different resolutions in "SimAnt," you must do so from the DOSBox configuration file.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu, followed by "All Programs," "DOSBox," "Configuration" and "Edit Configuration." This opens the DOSBox configuration menu.

    • 2

Scroll to the [sdl] section of the configuration file. The [sdl] section is listed near the top of the file.

    • 3

Type either true or false after "fullscreen=." True makes "SimAnt" fullscreen, while false forces "SimAnt" into a window on your PC.

    • 4

Enter the resolution for "SimAnt" under "fullresolution=." For example, if your monitor is 1440 by 900, and you want "SimAnt" to take full advantage of your monitor, enter "fullresolution=1440x900."

    • 5

Enter the resolution for the windowed mode under "windowresolution=." The size of the resolution entered dictates how big the window is. For example, to set the window resolution at 1280x960, enter "windowresolution=1280x960."

    • 6

Select "File" at the top of the file, and "Save" to save all changes.

    • 7

Launch "SimAnt" using DOSBox. The resolution that is displayed is the one you specified in the configuration file.
