How to Build Tools for Minecraft

"Minecraft" is a survival and creation game that requires you to explore your environment to get the best resources in a three-dimensional world. Each block you harvest has a particular tool that will let it produce resources faster if you use it. For example, trees will more quickly produce logs if you chop it down with an axe rather than a shovel. Similarly, stone will only produce resources when you mine is with certain pickaxes rather than your bare hands. You may craft all tools on a crafting table.

  Right-click a crafting table that you have built. A crafting grid will appear on the screen.

  Build the base of your tool. No matter what tool you build, you must place a wooden stick in the center squares of the center and bottom rows of the grid.

  Build the head of your tool. You may use wooden planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, gold ingots or diamond gems. Fill only the center of the top row for a shovel. Fill the first two squares of the top row for a hoe. Fill the whole top row for a pickaxe. Fill the first two squares of the top row and the first square of the center row for an axe. When you form your tools' "recipe," a picture of the tool appears beside the grid.

  Click the picture of your tool, followed by any available square in your inventory or equipment row. This completes the crafting process, giving you the desired tool.
