The Fastest Characters to Level in Diablo 2

"Diablo 2" is a role playing game (RPG) from Blizzard Entertainment in which the player assumes the role of a barbarian, an Amazon warrior, a sorcerer or a necromancer to track down and slay the evil demon "Diablo." As the player progresses in the game, his character gains experience and "levels-up" his character, or makes it more powerful. In the game, different characters will level up faster at different parts of the game.
  1. Levels

    • In role playing games, a player controls a "character" through which she plays the game. Characters will have different abilities to fight, cast spells or perform other actions that depend on the character's "level." The higher the level, the more capable the character becomes. A player increases her character's level by performing different actions in the game, such as defeating bad guys, which gives her character experience points. Every time a character gains a certain number of experience points, it gains another level. Each progressively higher level requires a progressively higher number of experience points.

    Barbarian

    • "Diablo 2" players that play as the barbarian class of character will level faster in the early parts of the game. Barbarians are the physically toughest of the character classes, so they can survive prolonged fights with many different opponents. Their combat attacks in the early stages of the game are also relatively more powerful when compared to the other character classes. Because defeating various monsters and other bad guys is the primary way in which "Diablo 2" characters level up, this combination means that players can quickly level barbarian characters in the early stages of the game.

    Casters

    • The classes of "Diablo 2" characters that rely on casting spells -- sorcerers and necromancers -- to defeat their opponents will level more slowly in early parts of the game, but more quickly later in the game. These characters are physically weak, which means that they cannot survive long if enemies begin dealing them damage. In the beginning of the game, their spells are also relatively weak. This combination means that defeating enemies early in the game is a slower process, as casters must pick off enemies and run away from mobs that a barbarian could easily defeat and translate into experience points and higher levels. However, as these characters do level up, they gain access to increasingly powerful spells which deal large amounts of damage to many foes at a time. The damage these spells deal are higher than barbarian attacks and barbarians can only attack a single foe at a time. Many of these spells deal damage to several foes at once. In later stages of the game, this allows casters to quickly defeat large numbers of opponents, which translates into quickly accumulating large numbers of experience points, that would take a barbarian a longer time to overcome.

    Amazon

    • "Diablo 2" players that play as an Amazon character class that combines some of the characteristics of the barbarian and caster characters. They are physically tougher than the casters, but not as much as the barbarian. They also utilize ranged weapons, such as a bow or javelin, that inflict higher rates of damage due to Amazon character abilities. This combination gives them the ability to level faster than casters in the early game, as they can survive in extended fights for longer before having to run away, but not as fast as barbarians. Later in the game, a well-planned Amazon can level faster than barbarians because of its ability to dispatch foes at a distance, whereas a barbarian must engage each enemy one at a time. However, these distance abilities do not dispatch enemies quite as quickly as the casting character classes.
