How to Turn on Custom Music on CIV IV

Sprawling empires, world leaders and vast armies fall during the turn-based strategy warfare of "Sid Meier's Civilization IV," typically to the orchestral overtures of Mozart, Brahms and Bach -- who comprise much of the game's default background music, which is automatically enabled on installation. However, strategy gamers who desire a more modern soundtrack to their civilization-toppling endeavors can install custom music, cherry-picking their own MP3-format songs for "Civilization IV" marathons.

Instructions

    • 1

Double-click on the "Computer" icon on the desktop and then open the C: drive icon.

    • 2

Open the "All Programs (x86)" folder ("All Programs" on 32-bit systems), open "Firaxis Games," open "Sid Meier's Civilization 4," open "CustomAssets," open "Sounds" and then open the "Soundtrack" folder.

    • 3

Drag and drop your MP3 files to the folder.

    • 4

Launch the game by clicking the "Start" menu button, clicking "All Programs," clicking "Firaxis Games," clicking "Sid Meier's Civilization 4" and then clicking "Launch Civilization 4." As the game launches, the MP3 files stored in the "CustomAssets" folder will override the default soundtrack.
