How to Learn Colors & Shapes With Computer Games

Toddlers start recognizing the difference in colors and shapes at around 18 months. When an interest in shapes and colors begins, it is time to start teaching and practicing with them. One way to do this is to add new shapes and colors slowly while teaching the names of the shapes and colors. Another way to teach colors and shapes is to let toddlers learn them with computer games.

  Visit the Fisher-Price website to let your child play "Colors and Shapes." A colored shape appears on the screen, and the game says what color it is and the shape's name. Have children press any key on the keyboard for another color shape to pop up and learn what it is.

  Go to the Kinderweb Games website, and play games such as "The Color Game" and "The Shape Game." Children see various shapes or colors in each game and are asked which one is a certain shape or color. Use the mouse to click on the right one.

  Help your children learn colors and shapes at Play Kids Games. "The Shape and Color Train" teaches children shapes and colors in one game. Have children click on the correct shape or color that is being asked for to complete the shape train.
