How to Fix a Leapster Cartridge

The Leapster is a handheld video game unit designed for toddlers and young children. The video games developed for the Leapster are educational in nature. Though typically durable, game cartridges for the system can become dirty with use. By cleaning the cartridge's reading strip, however, you can properly fix the game. Even those unfamiliar with cleaning the cartridges can finish this project in just 10 minutes with the help of a household product.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto one end of a cotton swab. The swab should be damp, not soaked.

    • 2

Rub the damp cotton swab over the reading strip on the cartridge. Pay particular attention to areas on the strip that are particularly dirty and accumulating debris.

    • 3

Apply rubbing alcohol to the other end of the cotton swab and repeat the cleaning process. Rub the swab back and forth along the reading strip. Repeat this process until dirt no longer accumulates on the end of the cotton swab.

Wait 10 minutes to 15 minutes for the reading strip on the cartridge to air dry and then insert the cartridge into the Leapster.
