Before Installing
Click the "Start" orb, type "Windows Update" into the search bar and hit "Enter." Click "Check for Updates" on the left side of the window.
Look for "Updates are available for your computer" after the Updater finishes checking. If none are available, your operating system and graphics driver are up-to-date and you're ready to install the game. Otherwise, click the blue link stating the number of available updates. Check the boxes next to the available updates and click "OK." Click "Install Updates" and Windows will walk you through the process, which may differ depending on the updates.
Compare the minimum requirements for "Civilization IV" with your computer's specifications and ensure your computer meets or exceeds every requirement. The Minimum System Requirements came with your game's documentation; it's also available on the official "Civilization IV" website. (See Resources.) Your computer's specifications are often included in your computer's user manual.
Installing "Civilization IV"
Insert the first "Civilization IV" disc into your computer's CD-ROM drive. If an Autoplay window appears, click the option to install the game and follow the on-screen instructions provided in the Installation Wizard. If no Autoplay window appears, click the "Start" orb and "Computer."
Right-click the CD-ROM drive, which will say "Sid Meier's Civilization IV." Choose the "Explore" option.
Double-click the "Setup.exe" file to launch the setup. Follow the on-screen instructions and insert the second "Civilization IV" disc when the Installation Wizard tells you to and continue following any instructions the setup program offers.
