How to Change Your Name's Color in Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch

"Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch" is a free computer game and unofficial entry in the "Mega Man" series released by Michael "CutmanMike" Hill. The game was built from the Skulltag port of the "Doom" series. Gamers can play as any protagonist or robot master from the classic "Mega Man" games and frag their friends online. MM8BDM makes it easy to customize each character by choosing a unique color scheme and user name; however, for those who want to personalize their killing machines even further, you can just change the color of your online handle.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a unique screen name. Begin the game and press any button to bring up the main menu. Choose "Option" and select "Player Setup." At the name prompt, press "Enter" and input the screen name of your choice. You may also edit the skulltag-x.ini file (the letter "x" represents the computer owner's name) located within your "MM8BDM" folder. Open this file and add your desired screen name after the "name=" property.

Add the color code before your screen name. Unfortunately, no simple option exists to alter your name's color. Instead, players must input a color code consisting of a back slash ("\") and the letter "c" at the beginning of their name in either the "Player Setup" options or within the game's skulltag-x.ini file. Fortunately, these added characters will not show up in your public screen name.

    • 3

Input an additional letter corresponding to a color between the color code and your user handle. Virtually every letter on the keyboard will result in a different color, so you are encouraged to experiment or reference the chart in the Resources section. Players can add this information via the skulltag-x.ini file, but it is better to add the finishing touches in the "Player Setup" options and press "Enter" to see the immediate effects.

Add color codes before each letter to add multiple hues. If you're not content to let your in-game performance set you apart from other players, you can choose a unique color for each letter in your screen name. Input the color code and a letter corresponding with the color of your choice before each and every letter in your handle. Your name will be a polychromatic statement other players can't ignore during online play.
