Boot up Wolfquest. When you get to the title screen, select "Start new game." The game should begin and bring you to a menu where you can customize your wolf.
First, name your wolf. Enter the name into the first box. Many players opt for something short like Fur, Ash or Gray. You can also use something that relates to canine mythology and legend, like Sirius, Adolpha or Lupa. Don't worry about it too much -- you will be able to edit your wolf's name throughout game play if you like.
Next, choose your wolf's sex. Just like in the wild, a male wolf will be larger than a female. Males will also have greater physical strength. If you want the strength to take down elks and bears, choose a male wolf. Keep in mind that as strength increases, speed decreases. Choose your wolf's sex based on the benefits you desire.
Next, choose your wolf's coat pattern. Options include black, sable, timber, white and gray. In the wild, different coat patterns offer different advantages and disadvantages related to survival. In a sandy environment, for example, a red sable coat would be better camouflage than a coat that is black. The red sable coat would not be ideal for an Arctic setting, though, while a white and gray coat would be. Choosing your coat pattern does not affect your wolf directly but may affect how visible its puppies will be to predators, since pups often inherit their parents' coat colors. Choose your pelt pattern based on what you think will aid in their survival.
Move the two sliders to change the color of your wolf's guard hairs and undercoat. Modifying the coloration will help camouflage your wolf as well as its future pups.
