How Do I Set the Rules on Sid Meier's Civilization III?

"Sid Meier's Civilization III" is a turn-based history strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and published by Infogrames in October 2001. Players engage in nation building over four distinct ages, gaining access to new cities, peoples, equipment and resources, and vying for supremacy over the competition as the years advance. "Civilization III" gives players a great deal of control over the characteristics of the planet where they build their empire, including size, geography, temperature and climate.

Instructions

    • 1

      Begin your "Civilization" game.

    • 2

Choose the "New Game" option at the top of the options list on the opening game menu. This brings you to the "Choose Your World" screen, where you can customize the gameplay experience.

    • 3

Set the five available options according to your game preferences. "World Size" determines the size of the planet. Smaller worlds usually result in shorter games. "Land Mass and Water Coverage" sets the ratio of water to dry land. "Climate" determines how often certain types of terrain are encountered. Dry options produce more desert-type regions, while wet options produce moist environments such as jungles and flood plains. The "Age" of the planet refers to how earthquakes, continental drift and other factors have affected its formation and land masses. "Temperature" works similarly to "Climate," and "Barbarian" determines the level of barbarian activity in the game world.
