Download and install the latest patch for "The Sims 2" from the Electronic Arts website. Click the version of "The Sims 2" that you are playing to download the patch to your hard drive. Double-click the patch to install it. For example, if you're playing the CD-ROM version of "Open for Business" you would click "The Sims 2 Open for Business CD Patch" on the page. Patches fix errors with the game, like the TV error that prevents video from displaying.
Change the resolution of "The Sims 2" to match the recommended resolution of your monitor. Select the "Settings" option from "The Sims 2" main menu and open "Video Settings." Set "Resolution" to whatever the recommended resolution of your monitor happens to be. This information will be listed in your monitor's manual. Setting your resolution too high or too low could cause some elements of the game, like the TV set, to display improperly.
Update the driver for your graphics card using the Device Manager. Click "Start" and "Control Panel." Click "Device Manager." Look through the list until you find your graphics card's model number. Right-click it and select the "Update" option to download and install the newest driver. Reboot your computer and attempt to play "The Sims 2" again to see if the problem is fixed.
