How to Bind Keys in Counter Strike 1.6

"Key Binding" is a process in computer games where multiple actions are tied to a specific key on the player's keyboard according to their preferences. This is especially useful in multi-player, online first-person shooters like "Counter Strike" where maps are fast paced, and standing still while messing around with menus and keys can get you shot. Actions like opening the "Buy" menu and purchasing weapons or armour is time consuming and leaves players vulnerable, so binding it to a specific key is a tactic used by advance players.

  Navigate to the folder where your copy of "Counter Strike 1.6" is installed and then right click on the file "Config.cfg." Select "Open With" from the pop-up menu and then choose "Notepad." This allows you to edit the contents of the file with Windows text editor.

  Type the word "Bind" without the quotation marks, followed by the keyboard key you want to bind and the action you want to bind to that key. The keyboard key and the action name must both be inside quotation marks. The action name must be one that the game recognizes. A list of actions that can be bound is available on the Cstrike website.

  Put a semi-colon between multiple actions if you want to bind them to the same key; when you press the key they will be performed in the order listed.

  Press "ALT+F" then "S" to save the configuration file, and then "ALT+F" and "X" to exit it.

  Right click on the "Counter Strike 1.6" shortcut on your desktop and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. Add the words "-game cstrike -console" -- without the quotation marks -- at the end of the text in the "Target" box. Click the "Apply" button then "Ok."

  Double click the "Counter Strike 1.6" shortcut to start the game. The key bindings will automatically be loaded and you can press the buttons you assigned them to during gameplay to activate the effects.
