How to Customize Paintings in TES IV

"The Elder Scrolls" ("TES") is a series of fantasy role-playing video games. The fourth title is "Oblivion," which takes place in the imperial heartlands. The heartlands are bountiful, with an abundance of grains and wealth. Most upper class and noble homes have paintings hanging from their walls. Over the course of the game, players can also purchase paintings and hang them from the walls of their own homes. By using Overlord's "Custom Painting" mod, they can create new paintings and use them in "Oblivion."

Instructions

    • 1

Download "Custom Paintings" and open it with a unzipping program, such as 7-Zip or WinRar. Drag and drop the contents of "Custom Paintings" into the game's data folder. By defaults, it's located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Software\Oblivion\Data."

    • 2

Start "Oblivion" and, from start-up menu, click "Data Files." Put a check next to "Custom Paintings." Now the mod is installed.

    • 3

Open an image editing program that can save files in the ".dss" format. "Photoshop" has this capacity as do the free programs, "GIMP" and "DXTBmp."

    • 4

Load an image you want to include as a painting in "Oblivion." Alternatively, draw one of your own. The image must be 256 pixels by 256 pixels. If it's too large or small, highlight it by clicking "CTRL" and "A" simultaneously. Use the resize tool to adjust it to the proper proportions.

    • 5

Click "File" and then "Save." Name it "CustomPaintingXXX.dds"--where "XXX" is replaced with a number, such as 6 or 348. Save the file to the directory "C:/Program Files (x86)\Bethesda\Oblivion\Data\textures\furniture\ol_custompaintings."
