New Armies
"Age of Empires 2" featured 13 different armies, but the expansion pack adds five to the total. The Mayan and Aztecs particularly stand out, with warriors in eagle masks and Mesoamerican structures. The Koreans are another new civilization; they specialize in defense, with effective siege weapon and guard towers. The Spanish Empire features armed soldiers on horses, and the Huns stand out for their ability to demolish enemy structures.
Broader Difficulty
The expansion pack has widened the difficulty range of "Age of Empires 2." The easiest difficulty is less of a challenge for those new to the game. If you are looking to test yourself however, the toughest setting just got tougher. The computer will steal the valuable resources and form a powerful, well-organized army.
Campaigns
The three campaigns, each comprising six missions, were based on the real-life battles of the Spanish, the Huns and the Aztecs. Defend your land against the invading Spanish as the Aztec ruler Moctezuma II, rampage through central Europe as Attila the Hun or become El Cid of Spain and battle with the Moors. The fourth and final campaign is a medley of famous battles.
Other Features
It's important in real-time strategy games to gather the resources needed to build an army. The problem is that this monotonous process can take away from the thrill of battle. But in this expansion pack your villagers will harvest resources automatically after completing their tasks, saving you the hassle of instructing them.
New technologies and maps are available too. Technologies include Chinese rocketry, Persian mahouts, Japanese Kataparuto, herbal medicine and even caravans. You can now battle on the frozen waters known as Ghost Lake and the Yucatan rainforest.
