'Risk 2' Computer Game

Risk is a stagey board game in which players go to war with one another on a board that is based on a map of the Earth. The goal of the game is to defeat your enemies in battle and achieve world domination. A PC version of the game, "Risk 2," was released in 2000.
  1. Classic Mode

    • As "Risk 2" is the computer game version of the board game, the main game mode stays true to game's roots. Players take turns consolidating, reinforcing or, of course, attacking. Your goal is to capture enough territory to win the game.

    Same-time Mode

    • This mode separates this video game from the board game it is based on. Same-time mode lets players plan, set up and execute battle orders simultaneously. Your soldiers will carry out your orders; the problem is that you don't always want them to. If you've used the majority of your army for a major attack, then you could be ill-prepared if you are attacked. The only exception is if armies meet at a border; the armies will fight each other for the right to invade first. This game-mode ditches the six-sided dice of the board game and opts for a 12-sided attacking and defending die instead. The values on this die increase as your army grows, meaning the new rules favor those in early position of dominance.

    Choosing Countries

    • Choosing your countries at the start of a game is done in one of three ways. You can take follow the classic method and take turns; you can deal the countries out randomly; or you can bid on territories in auctions using your influence points.

    Artificial Intelligence

    • Risk is best played against a real opponent, which you can do both online and offline. But if you have to or desire to play against the computer, you should be pleasantly surprised by what is an offer. You can play against 16 opponents, each with a different level of skill, and some provide more than a challenge. Also, these 16 players have 16 different personalities, such as a computer player that is cautious while another that is hasty.

    Enhancing the Board Game

    • Even though this is a computer game version of a board game, the battle animations enhance the overall experience. The view zooms into an area where a battle emerges, and you can watch a visual representation of the fight. Enemy soldiers will fall off their horses like they have been shot after you click the "Roll" button.
