Things You'll Need
Instructions
Click on an easel in a community lot or purchase an easel for your home lot in "Build and Buy Mode" and place it in an easily accessible area.
Select any of the painting options available to your Sim to begin work on a new painting. If a painting is already on the easel, scrap it or sell it.
Pause the game when your Sim pulls out a blank canvas to begin painting. Pressing the "C" button is a shortcut to pausing the game.
Exit the screen running "The Sims 2" without shutting down the program by simultaneously holding down "Alt" and "Tab" on your keyboard. This will allow you to go back to the main screen on your computer while "The Sims 2" runs paused in the background.
Open your photo editing software of choice. You do not need a powerful program-- the photo editing software that came from your computer will suffice.
Locate the .bmp file that represents the painting your Sim is starting. The file is located in "The Sims 2" storytelling folder in your My Documents folder. The file name is "snapshot.bmp" so if you have trouble locating the file, run a search of your computer for that file name.
Load the "snapshot.bmp" file into your photo editing software and alter it to your liking using the paintbrush, fill and retouch tools available in your editing software. You can even replace the picture by pasting an equal-size photo or texture over the picture. Do not alter the size of the file.
Save the altered picture using the same file name to overwrite the file.
Resume playing "The Sims 2" and your Sim will begin painting the picture you saved as "snapshot.bmp."
