Click the icon for your Sim's child.
Click the "Needs" tab on your bottom toolbar.
Pay attention to the decay on each bar. By default, babies start out with fully green bars, and as their needs increase, the bars gradually decay to red.
Tend to your child. The social worker will only come if the baby's needs are too low. Feed your child if the Hunger bar is low, change his diaper if the Hygiene bar is low, and place him in his crib if his Energy bar is low.
Click the social worker if she should arrive. In "The Sims 2," some Sims can select "Plead with Social Worker" to potentially save their child.
Avoid having more babies. Whether you cannot afford to feed your child or simply do not have the time to take care of it, you should not continue to have more children. If a child isn't born, it cannot be neglected, ultimately preventing the social worker from arriving.
