How to Get Rid of the Lag in Minecraft

Minecraft is perhaps the best example of a construction oriented sandbox game. It is intended for those who prefer to create a game's content, such as castles, mountains and other virtual structures. Yet there are upsetting lag challenges. One is that the game is written in Java which is memory intensive from the start. As such, Minecraft has memory issues because of the memory intensive nature of the game. The server administrator may have to deal with shortfalls.

Check the game's minimum requirements to ensure your computer can handle running it. Minecraft is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The minimum technical requirements for Minecraft generally suggest a good graphics card, 512 MB ram and 1 GB available hard drive space.

    • 2

Upgrade the RAM (random access memory) on your computer or lower the memory usage. The first choice is preferable but the second way may be accomplished more easily.

    • 3

Close all nonessential programs. They will be visible as rectangle shaped graphics on the computer display bar at the bottom of the screen. Right-click on a program with your mouse to bring up a menu box. Select "Close Window" to end the program.

    • 4

Adjust the internal game settings to improve frame rate. Without extensive explanation just remember that frame rate is the rate at which things happen in the game. Hence a low frame rate is a bad thing. Set everything to low and turn off anything that isn't needed.

    • 5

Reduce load on the server by playing with fewer people simultaneously. Minecraft is a downloadable game. There are no servers on the game website, so groups of players set up their own servers on one player's home computer. In multiplayer games, the server is the player whose computer has the most ram and hard drive and the best internet connection.

    • 6

Have players congregate at fewer locations on a multiplayer server. This reduces the work expected of the server since it will have fewer locations to keep track of at once.

    • 7

Stop using dynamite in game. Dynamite lag is a real problem. The game has excellent physics game simulations which have a slowing effect during explosions. Reduce these explosions or set off smaller amounts of dynamite.
