How to Fix a Fatal Error in DotA

"Defense of the Ancients" or "DotA" is a highly successful custom-made multiplayer map for the game "Warcraft 3." "DotA" has had a lot of bug fixes over the years, but players still occasionally run into fatal errors. There are a number of things that could actually be wrong, but the only surefire way to fix a fatal error is to remove the version of "DotA" that you downloaded and install a fresh copy. The problem could be due to an error during the downloading process, or you may have accidentally downloaded a counterfeit map.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the official "DotA" website (see Resource section) to ensure that you download a clean copy of the latest version. Download it to a location of your choice and unzip the folder via WinZip or WinRar. Highlight the "DotA" map file, right-click and then click on the "Copy" option.

    • 2

Open up your "Warcraft III" maps folder. The default location for this is "C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Maps." If you installed "Warcraft III" to a custom directory, you need to visit the place you chose to install it in to find your "Maps" folder.

    • 3

Right-click an empty space in the "Maps" folder, right-click and click on the "Paste" button. If a dialogue box opens asking if you want to replace currently existing files, click the "Yes" button. Your fresh copy of "DotA" will now be in the correct location and you are ready to log onto Battle.net and begin playing. If you are still experiencing fatal errors, try reinstalling "Warcraft III." The problem could possibly be a faulty install of the game itself.
