How to Use the Triggers in the SC2 Map Editor

"StarCraft II," also commonly referred to as "SC2" is a Real Time Strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Players can play through a singleplayer campaign, compete against one-another in online battles through Blizzard's "Battle.net" service and even create their own content. "SC2" comes with a map editor program wherein you can create custom maps, and create custom events, also called "Triggers" on these maps. Use these "Triggers" to define what needs to happen to set the trigger off as well as what happens when a trigger is set off.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the "StarCraft II" map editor.

    • 2

Click "Modules" along the top of the window. This opens a drop-down box with several options.

    • 3

Click "Triggers." You can also quickly access the "Triggers" menu by pressing the "F6" key. Whichever method you choose, this opens the "Triggers" editor window.

    • 4

Right-click anywhere in the open space in the left frame of the "Triggers" editor window. This opens a drop-down menu. Click "New Element" located near the bottom of this drop-down menu. Name your new trigger.

    • 5

Right-click "Events" in the upper frame on the right side of the window. This opens another drop-down menu. Click "New Element." Select the event from the menu that you wish to cause the trigger to occur. Click "OK." You can assign multiple events for the same trigger using this step.

    • 6

Right-click "Conditions" in the upper frame on the right side of the "Triggers" editor window. Click "New Element." This opens the "Configure Condition" window. Here, you can set further conditions on your trigger. You can configure the trigger to run under particular conditions after a specified event has occurred. Select the type of condition from the menu in the upper part of the window. Select the variables for that condition type in the lower window. For example, set the trigger to occur based on the owner of the unit in question. Click "OK" after you finish setting conditions.

    • 7

Right-click "Actions." Click "New Element." This opens the "Actions" window. Select the types of actions you wish to occur should the events and conditions of this trigger take place. These are the things that will happen when a trigger is active. Select the type of action you want from the menu on the left side of the window. Select the action itself from the right-hand menu. If you know the type of action, you can also type it into the search field. Depending on the type of action, you may then have to set further conditions and values in the selections under the "Actions" heading. For example, you might select a "If Then Else" type of action. You must then set conditions under "If," "Then" and "Else" under actions.
