Restart your computer. If you've had your computer booted up for several hours or even days, your computer's lack of available system resources is likely slowing down your Internet connection, which is causing a red connection during the game. Close "Starcraft" and reboot your computer. Open "Starcraft" again, connect to Battle.net and try to play a game again.
Update to a faster Internet speed or service type. If you're still running a dial-up Internet connection there is not much you can do to get fast speeds during "Starcraft." Upgrade your service to either a DSL or cable connection. This will allow "Starcraft" to connect to the Internet at much faster speeds, virtually eliminating all possibilities of a red connection.
Shut down all other computers and devices on your wireless network while attempting to play "Starcraft." All devices are sharing the same Internet connection over a wireless network, and the more devices you add to the network the slower your "Starcraft" connection will go. Shut down computers, stop any devices that may be streaming video from the Internet or downloading files and try to play "Starcraft" again.
Download the latest patch for the "Starcraft: Brood War" expansion pack (if applicable). If you are playing "Starcraft: Brood War" you have to download expansions for not just the original game but for the expansion as well. Select the "Download" link on the Blizzard Support website to download the patch file. Double-click the file to install it onto your copy of the game.
