Well of Souls: How to Create a World

Well of Souls is a computer role-playing game from Synthetic Reality that allows you to design and create your own worlds. Downloading the free game gives you access to the open-source text files that make up the games world, characters and quests. You can create your own simple pre-set world or modify it through the text. It is important that you study the game's entire text so you know how to input everything correctly.

Instructions

  Log on to "World of Souls" in Solo Mode. Click on the link for "Create Your Own World" and then the "Create New World" button in the box that appears.

  Input a name for your new world in the next text box that appears.

  Add/create a map for your world. The game's wizard will automatically create a map file; go to your C: drive and select the folders "WOS," "worlds," "evergreen" and "maps" and select a JPEG image in that folder.

  Go to the "File" list in the dialog box that appears with the map, select one of the text files in the list and click "Edit" to modify it. Please note the "quest" text file is the most important because it coordinates everything in the game.

  Input new text within the script's cookies to add things to the game like new scenes, monsters and actors. You must know the script format for the game; typos will cause bugs in the game.

  Add music to your world by opening the "music.ini" file through Wordpad or Notepad. In the "common" music selection, input the music file's name after "fight," "victory" or "lost." Music must be in MIDI format.
