Educational Games
The family Mediacom game site is brimming with games meant to help children gain a key skill for school and life. There are reading, math and typing games. Many games use iconic cartoon characters to teach skills. For instance, Clifford the Big Red Dog teaches phonics, Arthur the aardvark helps children learn math and children can learn typing under the tutelage of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Art Games
Games are also in the system to help children foster their artistic side. An example of such art games is the Activity Centre, a program that can be downloaded on to the computer from Mediacom's website and acts as an art easel on the computer. Children pick from pictures in the program and then color them in. Colors can be blended to make new colors and there is a pencil tool to draw with. Art can be put into other programs to create custom items using these creations, such as t-shirts.
Role-Playing
Children can also pretend they are in another role in life with several games centered around teaching them key work and social skills, while still allowing them to live out fantasies. "Zoo Vet" is such a game, which offers children the chance to play a vet that works in a zoo. Children go from animal to animal, checking vital signs and diagnosing any illnesses with team members. "Pet Vet 3D: Wild Animal Hospital" allows children to set up their own veterinary practice. More fanciful games exist, such as Baby Blimp, where children are in charge of a blimp that flies around orchestrating the delivery of babies via their fleet of storks.
Adventure Games
Many adventure games rotate through the system. A focus in these games is placed on looking for clues and finding things. One example is "Finders Keepers: The Adventures of Floyd Finders," where players must collect fish and certain trinkets to achieve social goals (in this case, reuniting lovers). These games are based on high levels of excitement, as children also face evil pirates.
