How to Use a GameShark Enhancer on 'Pokemon Ruby'

The GameShark video game enhancer by Mad Catz allows players to unlock hidden items, characters and abilities in their favorite games. The Game Boy Advance version of the GameShark device allows players nearly complete control over a number of Game Boy Advance games such as Pokemon Ruby. The GameShark for the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP comes preloaded with some codes for Pokemon Ruby, though additional codes can be entered manually by the player.

GameShark device for Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP
Pokemon Ruby game cartridge

Instructions

  Insert the GameShark device into the game cartridge slot of the Game Boy Advance game system. The Game Boy Advance should be turned off before you insert the device.

  Insert the Pokemon Ruby game cartridge into the cartridge slot on the GameShark device. The label on the game cartridge should be facing out.

  Turn the GameShark device on by moving its on/off switch to the "On" position.

  Turn the Game Boy Advance on. The GameShark device will boot once the Game Boy Advance is turned on, automatically detecting the copy of Pokemon Ruby that is inserted in the device and taking you to the Pokemon Ruby entry in the games list.

  Press the "A" button on the Game Boy Advance to activate all of the installed cheat codes for Pokemon Ruby, or press right on the D-pad control to access the installed cheat list. Scroll through the cheat list and press the "A" button to select each cheat you want to activate.

  Select the "Add New Cheat" option to manually enter new cheat codes for Pokemon Ruby. Press the "B" button to enter a description for the cheat code, then press "Start" to enter the code itself. Select each character of the code by pressing "A," then press "Start" to confirm the code.

  Press the "Start" button on the main cheat selection screen for Pokemon Ruby to finalize your selections and launch the game with the selected cheats enabled.
