How to Catch Lugia in Pokemon Silver Version

In "Pokemon Silver," you can capture Lugia, the game's mascot, roughly halfway through the adventure. Lugia is a Psychic and Flying-type Pokemon with a natural move set that includes Rock, Water and Normal-type attacks. If you want to capture this legendary beast, you'll have to explore the Whirl Islands, a series of sea-based mazes surrounded by whirlpools. The wild Lugia will be at level 40.

Instructions

Preparations

  Collect the Silver Wing from the Radio Director at Goldenrod's Radio Tower.

  Go to a Pokemon Center and add Pokemon that know Surf, Whirlpool and Flash to your party.

  Go to a PokeMart and stock up on Ultra Balls.

  Fly to Olivine City. From the city's coast, use Surf until you find the Whirl Islands.
Navigating the Whirl Islands

  Use Whirlpool to reach the northeastern island. Enter the cave.

  Use Flash to light up the cave. Travel to the ladder on the northeast side of the room. Climb down the ladder.

  Go southwest until you reach the next ladder.

  Use Surf and fall down the waterfall. Lugia is in a room at the bottom.
Catching Lugia
- 9
  Use Electric, Dark, or Rock-type attacks to weaken Lugia. Try to get its health as low as possible without knocking it out.

  Use an attack such as Sing or Sleep Power to put Lugia to sleep.
- 11
  Throw Ultra Balls at Lugia until you capture it.
