The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Game Boy Pocket version of the "Zelda" series is a popular installment in the franchise, mixing the graphical style of the Super Nintendo's "A Link to the Past" with a more open-world map style that would be employed in later "Zelda" titles like "Majora's Mask." There are several cheats for this game too. If you don't want to end the game with a high death-counter, quickly hold "A," "B," "Start" and "Select" when the hero is spinning and about to die. Select "Save and Quit" to return to the title screen without your death counting against you. It's also possible to skip tricky screens using the game's "Screen Skip" glitch. Walk to the edge of the screen to exit a difficult area. Walk back into the zone that's giving you trouble and press "Select" as the screen is switching. If you've timed it right, you'll jump to the other edge of the screen.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
The sequel to "Super Mario Land" provides a pocket-sized approximation of the action of Super Nintendo's "Super Mario World." If you want an easy run through "Super Mario Land 2," select "New Game" and hold "Select" at the opening screen where Mario is faced with a series of pipes. The game's hidden "Easy" mode will be unlocked. It's also possible to play through the game's demo modes by entering codes at the title screen. Press "Up" and "Select" to play the first demo. Add the "A," "B" or "A + B" buttons to this combination to access the second, third and fourth demo sequences.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan
Konami's licensed game based on the then-popular "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon was well-reviewed, but many critics complained of the game's difficulty. That's where the famous "Konami Code" comes in. Pause the game and enter the following codes on your Game Boy Pocket's D-pad and action buttons: "Up," "Up," "Down," "Down," "Left," "Right," "Left," "Right," "B," "A" then "Start." Your turtle's energy will be refilled instantly. Try entering this code at the title screen or pause screen of other games made by Konami, it unlocks secret bonuses in nearly every game by the developer.
