How to Duplicate Pokemon in Blue Version

"Pokémon Blue Version" introduced the cute-but-ferocious battling monsters known as Pokémon to the world. This classic game, along with its partner "Pokémon Red Version," has gamers scouring the world of Kanto in search of the original 150 Pokémon while battling gym leaders and Team Rocket along the way. Released on the handheld Game Boy system, "Pokémon Blue Version" features multiplayer trades and battles with the Game Boy link cable. You can exploit a programming glitch in the trade system to duplicate your Pokémon.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 Game Boy systems
  • 2 copies of "Pokémon Blue Version" ("Pokémon Red Version" works as well)
  • Game Boy link cable

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the two Game Boy systems with the Game Boy link cable. You'll find the port on the right side of your Game Boy, just above the volume controls.

    • 2

Start both "Pokémon" games and head to the nearest Pokémon Center. Approach the lady at the counter on the right and select "Trade." Note that Player 1 should have the Pokémon you wish to duplicate while Player 2 should have a weak Pokémon you don't mind losing.

    • 3

Initiate the trade. Player 1's Pokémon will travel across the link cable to Player 2's Game Boy. Turn off Player 1's Game Boy right before it says "Trade Complete." Player 2's Game Boy will say "Trade Complete," and both games will now have a copy of the duplicated Pokémon while the other, weak Pokémon will be lost.
