Some items and extra elements of Pokemon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition are not available at the start of the game and must be unlocked. Players can get a special diploma from the game designer. To do this, finish the entire Pokedex, which is a list showing all of the captured Pokemon. Once the Pokedex is complete, players must head to the Celadon Mansion, which is where the game designer will award them with their Pokedex Diploma. Mew is the only Pokemon that does not need to be present in order to obtain the diploma. Pikachu's surfing mini-game is unlocked by using Pikachu to win all of the Pokemon Stadium Tournament matches. Once the matches have been won, players can visit a man inside the Fuschia City beach house who will unlock the surfing game.
Battles
Throughout Pokemon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition, players must engage in unscheduled battles with opponents. These battles occur when opponents lurk behind grass and then attack as a player passes. To avoid dealing with these battles, players can use a tool called the HM Cut. Once found, the HM Cut is used to help different types of Pokemon cut down grass. Once a Pokemon has learned the HM Cut move, it can cut down grass as it comes upon it, which causes the enemies to flee and the battle situations to disappear.
Pikachu
Pokemon characters generally must be persuaded in order to gain their affection. In Yellow Version, players can earn Pikachu's admiration while sidestepping the normal process. To do this, players must acquire Pikachu in his Pokeball. At this time, players should possess one potion that they began the game with. If players use the potion five consecutive times on Pikachu's Pokeball before their match against an enemy collector named Gary Eevee, Pikachu's affection will begin immediately after Eevee's defeat. If Eevee wins the fight, the potion will have no effect on Pikachu.
