How to Record Video in Visual Boy Advance

The free Visual Boy Advance emulator enables you to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games on your computer. The emulator lets you take screenshots or record videos of the games, which is not possible on the real hardware. You can use these recorded videos to create guides for games, which is easier and clearer for your viewers to follow than a text-only guide. You can also use it to record videos of free public domain games and demos that are created for the emulator by hobbyist coders.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the latest version of the Visual Boy Advance software from the official website (link in Resources.)

    • 2

Launch the program and then "Open" from the "File" menu.

    • 3

Select the game for which you want to record the video and then click "Open" to load it in the emulator.

    • 4

Click "Tools" from the menu bar and then hover your mouse cursor over the "Record" option.

    • 5

Click "Start AVI recording" and then enter a file name for the video file. Select a location on your computer where you want to store the recorded video and then click "Save."

    • 6

Click the "Compressor" drop-down list on the video compression window that opens and then select a codec with which to record the video. The available options will depend on what codecs you have installed on your computer.

    • 7

Click the "Configure" button if your selected codec supports this feature and then adjust the settings to match your preferences. The compression quality slider determines the quality of the recorded video versus the size.

    • 8

Click "OK" to start the video recording of the emulated ROM. Click "Stop AVI" recording from the "Record" drop-down menu to stop recording.
