Pokemon Leaf Green Facts and Walk-throughs

"Pokemon LeafGreen," released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, is a remake of the first Pokemon games released: "Pokemon Red" and "Blue." In "LeafGreen," your goal is to become the Pokemon champion by defeating all eight gym leaders and obtaining their gym badges. Each gym leader specializes in a certain type of Pokemon; knowing a gym leader's weakness allows you to defeat him.
  1. Pewter City

    • Brock, the leader of the Pewter City gym, specializes in Ground- and Rock-type Pokemon. He only uses two Pokemon, Geodude and Onix, who are Level 12 and 14, respectively. Water-type Pokemon do double damage to Brock's Pokemon, in addition to Grass-type Pokemon. However, Electric-type moves do not damage Brock's Pokemon, and Fire-type Pokemon are weak to the moves Brock uses.

    Cerulean City

    • The leader of the Cerulean City gym is Misty, who uses two Water-type Pokemon: Staryu, who is Level 18, and Starmie, who is Level 21. Grass- and Water-type Pokemon are most effective against Misty's Pokemon. However, avoid using any Fire- or Rock-type Pokemon as you battle her.

    Vermilion City

    • The Vermilion City gym is led by Lt. Surge, who uses three Electric-type Pokemon whose levels range from 18 to 24: Voltorb, Pikachu and Raichu. Ground-type Pokemon, such as Sandslash, negate the damage from any Electric-type moves. As almost all of Surge's moves are electricity based, any Ground-type Pokemon can easily defeat his entire team.

    Celadon City

    • Erika, the Celadon City gym leader, specializes in Grass-type Pokemon. Her three Pokemon, Victreebel, Tangela and Vileplume, range in level from 24 to 29. Fire-type Pokemon work best against Erika, in addition to Flying- or Bug-type Pokemon. Avoid using any Pokemon that are Ground- or Water-type, as they are weak to Grass-type attacks.

    Saffron City

    • Saffron City's gym is helmed by Sabrina, who uses Psychic-type Pokemon. She is also the first gym leader to use four Pokemon: Kadabra, Mr. Mime, Venomoth and Alakazam, ranging in levels from 37 to 43. Ghost- and Bug-type Pokemon do double damage to all of Sabrina's Pokemon, and a Dark-type Pokemon negates all damage from her Psychic-type attacks.

    Fuchsia City

    • Koga, the Fuchsia City gym leader, specializes in Poison-type Pokemon. His four Pokemon, ranging from levels 37 to 43, are Muk, two Koffings and a Weezing. Ground- and Psychic-type Pokemon work best against Koga. However, beware of his Pokemon's moves; many of them cause damage over time and can defeat any of your Pokemon even after the Pokemon who used the move is defeated.

    Cinnabar Island

    • Cinnabar Island's gym leader is Blaine, who uses four Fire-type Pokemon. His lineup consists of Growlithe, Arcanine, Ponyta and Rapidash. Compared with previous gym leaders, Blaine is easy to defeat as Fire-type Pokemon have a wide array of weaknesses, including Water-, Rock- and Ground-type Pokemon and moves.

    Viridian City

    • Giovanni, the last gym leader you face, is in charge of the Viridian City gym and specializes in Ground-type Pokemon. Unlike other gym leaders, Giovanni uses five Pokemon in battle: Rhyhorn, Dugtrio, Nidoqueen, Nidoking and Rhydon. These Pokemon range in level from 42 to 50. Despite the high level of his Pokemon, they can be easily defeated by Water-, Grass- and Ice-type Pokemon.
