How to Get Charmander With Pokeradar

The Pokeradar was a new feature introduced in the games "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl." The Pokeradar is also included in the "Pokemon Platinum" game. This machine, which is presented to your character by your in-game mentor -- either Professor Oak or Professor Rowan -- allows you to detect exactly where Pokemon are hiding in the grass. Virtually all Pokemon, including Charmander, can be found with the Pokeradar, but as Charmander is a rare Pokemon it may take some time before you are able to identify one and capture it.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk through any portion of the game in which normal grass is present. The Pokeradar will not work in tall grass, in water, or while you are riding your bike.

    • 2

Stop walking as soon as you see a square or several squares of the grass start to move. This indicates that the Pokeradar has detected a Pokemon hiding in that area. If the grass moves very strongly, the chances are higher that you have found Charmander, as more movement indicates a rarer and stronger Pokemon.

    • 3

Walk forward one step to automatically engage in battle. At this point you will be able to see the type of Pokemon you are fighting. If it is not Charmander, you can exit the battle by surrendering and proceed to step 4. If you have found a Charmander, proceed to step 5.

    • 4

Walk 50 steps, or ride 50 paces on your bike, to recharge your Pokeradar. Repeat this process of searching out Pokemon until you locate a Charmander.

    • 5

Enter battle with the Charmander by using potions and battle moves to weaken it. If your personal battle Pokemon is seriously weakened during the battle with Charmander, heal it with a healing potion. Continue to battle with the Charmander until it has less than half of its Hit Points (HP) remaining.

    • 6

Throw a Pokeball at the Charmander to capture it. Since Charmander is a fairly strong Pokemon, you may wish to use a Great Ball, an Ultra Ball, or even a Master Ball to increase the chances of a successful capture on the first try. If Charmander breaks free from the ball, continue to battle, weakening it slightly more before trying another capture. When you throw a Pokeball and Charmander does not break free, you have successfully captured it and it will now be a member of your Pokemon collection.
