How to Connect VBA to DeSmuME

VisualBoyAdvance is a Gameboy Advance emulation environment, capable of playing virtual copies of Gameboy Advance games. The emulator is popular with gamers because of its ability to play home-brewed version of Gameboy Advance games. DeSmuMe focuses on Nintendo DS emulation. If you have a title that's supported in both environments, you can connect the two emulators to a common server and indirectly connect them.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a free copy of DeSmuMe's Wi-Fi package. Extract the file, and then install the "WinPcap" driver. Launch DeSmuMe after you've installed the driver.

    • 2

Select the "Wi-Fi Settings" option from the program's "Config" heading. Select your computer's Wi-Fi adapter from the "Bridge Network Adapter" menu box in the Wi-Fi Settings menu. Click "OK."

    • 3

Select the "Emulation Settings" option from DeSmuMe's "Config" heading. Check the "Boot from firmware (like the NDS)" menu box, and then exit the menu.

    • 4

Select the "Open Rom" option from the "File" heading to load a game that supports Wi-Fi. After you game loads, use its connection terminal in its menu options to connect to your server. For example, you could use the Pokemon Game Trading Station to establish a connection. Input the desired server into the terminal's "IP Address" or "Server Address" field.

    • 5

Launch VBA. Select the "Open" option from the program's "File" heading. Click on the application's "Options" heading. Highlight the "Link" entry in the context menu that appears beneath the heading, and then click on the "Settings" option.

    • 6

Click on the "Client" tab in the Link Options menu, and then type your server's IP address into the "Server IP address or host name" field. Click "Connect" to join the server with DeSmuME.
